Utilities software house Symantec Corp edged out estimates by two cents with fourth-quarter net income of $24.1m, or $0.40 per share, compared to profits of $8.3m a year ago – a 191.9% increase. The Cupertino, California company saw revenue up 20.3% at $156.1m. That’s a 5.0% increase sequentially and amounts to what the company claims is its sixth consecutive quarter of record revenue and profit. Revenue from Norton Utilities NT grew 183% year-over-year and the Windows 95 version saw sales up 39%. Revenue from Norton AntiVirus NT and Norton AntiVirus for Notes NT increased 91%, while sales of Norton AntiVirus for Windows 95 increased 41%. For the full year, net income rose to $85.1m from $26.0m on revenue up 22.5% at $578.4m. Earnings per share rose from $0.47 to $1.42. The year-ago results were weighed down by acquisition and after-tax restructuring charges of $10m and $19.8m for the quarter and year, respectively.
