According to the company, it offers automatic diagnosis and fixing of hard drive errors and includes utilities such as Norton cleanup for removing cookies and temporary files and system optimizer for optimizing Windows settings.

The latest Vista-compatible version of Norton SystemWorks provides the PC tuneup tools needed to keep computers running quickly and smoothly, and it also offers essential defenses against online threats and backup capabilities, protecting PCs from malicious code and data loss, said Rowan Trollope, senior vice president at Symantec.

The premier version includes Norton AntiVirus 2008, enhanced backup search and Save and Restore 2.0 for system and data backup and recovery and an emergency boot CD.

The company claims that the AntiVirus 2008 delivers behavior-based protection for detecting emerging spyware and viruses before traditional signature-based definitions are available. It offers outbound and inbound e-mail scanning, zero-day proactive browser protection and instant messaging protection.

The Norton SystemWorks standard, basic and premier are available for $69.99, $49.99 and $99.99, respectively, including a one-year subscription to Symantec’s protection updates.

Meanwhile, Symantec’s rival McAfee launched its Vista compatible antivirus software’s in February 2007 and Grisoft launched the update of its AVG internet security software for Vista in April 2007.
