The companies said the partnership would reduce cost and complexity in deploying U appliances, endpoint compliance and access control systems. It also will expand Juniper’s security reach and help Symantec move beyond its storage and security business cores to networking.

Symantec will add its anti-spam, IDP/IPS signatures and vulnerability technology to Juniper’s Unified Threat Management and Intrusion Detection and Prevention products.

Also, Juniper’s J-Security team will work with Symantec’s Global Intelligence Network on security and threat research, to create IPS signatures for Juniper’s IDP appliances. They will work to identify new and emerging network and application threats, and enable new threat protection content.

Cupertino, California-based Symantec and Sunnyvale, California-based Juniper had previously worked together whereby Symantec’s anti-spam software was added to Juniper devices.
