SYBASE WORKS WITH SUN ON JAVABEAN EXTENSIONS

By CBR Staff Writer

Sybase Corp’s vice-president of product marketing, Dave Litwack told ComputerWire at its International User Conference in Orlando, Florida, last week that it’s nuts about Java and is now working with Sun Microsystems Inc to build JavaBean extensions for improved database access and also an application programming interface for a source manager that apparently does check in and check out routines. Although, Java is the primary focus of all developments at Sybase Corp, the firm is also committed to CORBA support – an essential for server-based environments. The firm is, like most other vendors, using Visigenic Inc’s ORB Visibroker, but not exclusively. It says it is currently evaluating Dublin-based Iona Technologies Ltd’s Orbix product and also Sun Microsystems Inc’s Java ORB, JOE.
