Sybase Inc has taken the wraps off the latest version of its PowerDesigner database development tool which has been updated to provide extended internet capabilities to enable data driven web site generation and web based reporting. Version 6.1 of the product – the Powersoft tool which used to be known under the name S-Designer – features the company’s Model Merge and Test Generation interfaces for Online Analytical Processing tools. The company claims the new interfaces will enable users to more effectively manage their time, enabling pint and click procedures of previously lengthy manual tasks. Model Merge enables users to graphically compare two models at the same time, while Test Data Generation provides the capability to automatically fill newly created databases with sample data. PowerDesigner 6.1 has six modules, targeted at systems analysts, data modules, and application developers. It will ship at the end of the month, and can be bought in separate modules or in bundles.
