Sybase’s new Data Integration Suite 1.0 bundles together several offerings that were previously standalone products.

They include database replication, which ensures that all local database instances containing the same data are in sync; data federation, also generically known as information integration, where a single query can be run against multiple databases; real-time events, where data is pushed out to trickle update external systems when triggered by specific events (such as database updates); and search, which targets data in unstructured sources.

Besides just putting all those tools on the same software installation CD, the data integration suite features use of a common metadata engine that is built using Sybase’s PowerDesigner data modeling tool.

For now, the one piece that’s missing is Sybase’s ETL (extract/transform/loading) tools used for populating data warehouses, a feature that came with the recent acquisition of Solonde. That’s on the product roadmap for Q1.

Also on the roadmap is service-enablement. Today, some of the functions provided can be wrapped as services. For instance, data federation piece can define any remote data source as a service. Additionally, specific data flows, such as the publishing of real-time updates, could also be exposed as a service. Eventually, more pieces will be exposed as services.

With the new release of the suite, Sybase is still making the individual tools available a la carte. Sybase Data Integration Suite 1.0 is available now.
