Sybase and Siemens Enterprise Communications (SEN) Group have formed a partnership to provide customers with an integrated mobile and fixed line voice and data platform that supports and includes the management of a range of device types through a heterogeneous environment.

The companies said that the new offering unites Sybase’s mobile device management capabilities with the SEN Group’s Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC) technology providing a platform that businesses can deploy for the management of a diversified communications infrastructure. It will also help businesses to manage operations such as inventory and expenses, logistics, mobile devices and applications.

Sybase Afaria, a platform with a central web-based console that provides IT with control over a host of functions from a standard browser, enables the SEN Group to reduce the complexities associated with managing multiple device types at a time, the companies said.

Afaria will be embedded into SEN Group’s HiPath MobileConnect V2.3, a system that unifies fixed enterprise VoIP, VoWLAN and cellular mobility. It consists of two components: MobileConnect Appliance to monitor and manage mobile user sessions; and MobileConnect Client which works with the MobileConnect Appliance to navigate enterprise-cellular exchange, the companies added.

Marcus Birkl, vice president of mobility solutions at SEN Group, said: “By partnering with Sybase we can offer our customers the leading-edge management capabilities for all forms of mobile devices that they require, enhancing the usability and the ‘industrialisation’ of FMC technology.”
