Sybase Inc has axed nearly 400 staff, or nearly 8% of its total workforce, since October. The database provider, which recently restructured its operations in an attempt to become more competitive, told Bloomberg that the job cuts were not limited to any particular sector or geography but would be no more specific than that. The most recent cuts follow staff reductions of 600 in February and another 200 in July and leave the company with roughly 4,500 employees. Sybase said no further cuts are expected. Analysts surveyed by First Call expect the company to post earnings of $0.05 per share for the December quarter.
