Despite a first quarter loss of $0.09 a share on sales up only 13%, Sybase Inc’s chief executive, Mark Hoffman, is enthusiastic about the company’s prospects, telling Reuter that the database software industry is growing up in the 30% range, with certain segments, such as Internet-related products, data warehouse and mass deployment products, growing faster; he said Sybase’s new products in those areas should grow at the higher growth rate category for some time, adding that he is also very optimistic about sales of the company’s new core product, SQL Server 11 system – We believe revenue is driven in our business by product cycle and we very early in the best product cycle we ever had; PowerBuilder 5.0, for developing client-server applications for the Internet, will become available this quarter, he added.
