Emeryville, California-based relational database developer Sybase Inc has definitive agreement to acquire Palo Alto-based object-oriented multimedia tools developer Gain Technology Inc for 2m new Sybase shares,valuing the target at about $56m. The aim of the deal is to combine Gain’s tools with Sybase’s SQL Server technology to enhance ease of use for client-server computing. Privately-held Gain is 100%-owned by its directors and 100 employees. It was profitable on turnover of $3.2m for the quarter to March 31. Sybase says it plans to run Gain as a subsidiary at its existing base. The acquisition issubject to the usual conditions.
