Sybase Unwired Accelerator 8.0 replicates more closely the look and feel of Business Objects XI, Crystal Reports XI, Lotus Notes 6.5, Remedy Service Desk and SAP ERP. Previously, you could develop wireless clients of these and other enterprise systems with a more generic look.

Similarly, Sybase has added a pre-built Blackberry client that you can configure with wizards, a feature that saves considerable development time. Additionally, it now provides push-based alerts to Blackberry users when new mail comes in. Previously, the user had to connect with the server to pull down new email.

Another enhancement places Unwired Accelerator within Sybase’s overall strategy to develop Eclipse plug-ins for all its tools under the umbrella Sybase Workspace. Additionally, the new version also adds an API to the Microsoft .NET framework. Previously you would have had to custom develop the interfaces, or pull down data and functionality through web services.

Unwired Accelerator is one of four pieces of the company’s Information Anywhere (formerly called iAnywhere) mobile tools suite. The other parts mobile enable email systems, manage software patches to handheld clients, and embed security protections.

Sybase Unwired Accelerator 8.0 is available now.
