The company has made Antigen 7.5 for IM, which is designed to be deployed on top of Microsoft’s Live Communications Server 2003 platform, or IMLogic’s IM Manager, which is used to manage other IM systems such as AOL [AOLA].

Antigen, which is usually deployed on Exchange or Notes mail servers, uses scanning engines and signatures from multiple anti-virus software vendors, and also offers Spam Manager software, which in the context of IM can be used to filter keywords.

There are currently a few dozen documented viruses that use IM networks to spread, and all have been low risk, but experts believe it is only a matter of time before a wake-up call along the lines of 1999’s Melissa hits this emerging business application.
