Swiss Telecom PTT is to become an equal one-third shareholder with Televerket, Sweden and Koninklijke PTT Telecom Nederland NV in the Unisource systems integration and telecommunications services joint venture. No financial details were disclosed. Unisource has signed Sprint Corp to provide transatlantic links and is looking for a Far Eastern partner. Unisource will compete with the Eunetcom joint venture between France Telecom and the Deutsche Bundespost Telekom, and the British Telecommunications Plc’s Syncordia Corp in Atlanta. The letter of intent signed by the three parties awaits approval by the Swiss government and the European Commission. The Swiss entry into the partnership will entail the separation of its data activities from the national organisation and transferring them to Unisource. Unisource says it is now looking for first year business of over $400m.
