As one of the measures to get out of its painful bind and live down its Snail nickname, Swift, the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications in Brussels has bought $1.8m of RAMdisk/MLX solid state secondary storage from the Zitel International Corp European subsidiary of Zitel Corp, Milpitas, California: the RAMdisk is a semiconductor-based subsystem for Unisys Corp A, V, BX900 and BX800 series mainframes that emulates traditional disks and is capable of reducing data access times by up to 40-fold for systems suffering from inputoutput bottlenecks; each RAMdisk consists of two cabinets storing 96Mb with four ports.
