Swedish software house Concurrent Data Dynamics AB has launched one of the first Wireless Application Protocol internet portals. The 40-employee Uttran-based firm, which started life as an IT consultancy, is now seeking investment and partnerships in order to expand the service worldwide. The portal, at wap.allt.com was made available at the end of last week, as CDD hopes to capitalize as early as possible on the WAP internet service market. Research firm Strategy Analytics Inc reckons that over 500 million WAP handsets will be sold globally by 2003.

The portal will carry CDD’s Allt.com search engine, which the company says is the largest index of Swedish language sites on the net. It also looks for images, audio and downloadable software. Channels featuring IT news, business news and weather forecasts will be available, as well as the ability to send and receive email.

The portal was created using CDD’s in-house web search software, Grail, which the company says enabled it to build the portal in only two weeks. It is Grail that CDD hopes will attract investment to the company, given its claim that a cluster of boxes running the software can index 100 million web pages, images, sounds, and documents in less that seven days.
