Swatch kicks competition with 6-month battery smartwatch

'Super battery' can be used in smartwatches and cars.

By Joao Lima

Swatch is working on a battery that could last up to six months and be used both in smartwatches and cars.

The company will launch a "revolutionary battery" next year, not disclosing when the six months solution will be available.

Swatch CEO Nick Hayek said: "Whoever brings a battery for a smartwatch to the market that you don’t need to charge for six months has a competitive advantage.

The CEO added that the company is working on this problem with research group Belenos and battery producer Renata.

He continued: "Next year we will come to the market with a revolutionary battery, not only for watches but also for automobiles."
