Paris, France-based Mandrake’s Linux 9.0 for Opteron processors is now available to Mandrake partners and customers, and is the pre-cursor to an April release of Mandrake Linux Corporate Server 2.1 for AMD Opteron – a version designed for medium to large server deployments.

Mandrake said that Linux 9.0 for AMD desktop version includes the same features of its existing Linux 9.0 for x86 product, including web server, ftp server, extended security and database support. The company is also gearing up for the release of advanced clustering features for Linux running on Opteron. MandrakeClustering for Opteron is expected in June 2003.

Meanwhile, Nuremburg, Germany-based SuSE is lining up April 14 for the next release of its desktop Linux operating system for home users, SuSE Linux 8.2. Featuring a choice of the latest 3.1 version of the KDE desktop and the 2.2 version of the Gnome desktop, SuSE Linux 8.2 will also feature version 1.0.2 for the open source OpenOffice word processing, spreadsheet and presentation application suite.

Also included will be a new version of the KOrganizer scheduler application that adds support for Microsoft Corp’s Exchange 2000 server to enable users to synchronize schedule data with Exchange. Released on April 14, SuSE Linux 8.2 will cost $39.95 for the Personal version, and $79.95 for the Professional version.
