A survey by NTA Monitor revealed that many corporate networks are open to attack by hackers because IT managers are running outdated mail packages. The survey of more than 5,289 mail servers, revealed 5,029 were running insecure versions of mail software. The survey showed that more than 46% were using Unix Sendmail, and 60% of those are old versions and vulnerable. The latest version, 8.8.6, has fixed most of the security problems. Nearly all of the Microsoft Exchange sites surveyed were running releases with security issues, including the bug which allows hackers to download files from the server.
