New research from Dataquest shows what a rough year 1998 has been for the entire semiconductor industry. The 20 company league table, which shows 1997 revenue against projected 1998 revenue, lists only 6 firms which are expected to show a rise in revenues. Among these are the table leader Intel Corp (4.3%), Advanced Micro Devices Inc (1%) and Siemens (12.4%). The worst projected revenue losses for 1998 are expected to be shown by dynamic random access memory (DRAM) manufacturers such as NEC, Toshiba, Hitachi and Samsung. Despite this, DRAM manufacturers have generally held onto high to mid-table revenue rankings positions because the semiconductor industry has had such a depressed year.
