Surgichip was designed by orthopedic surgeon Bruce Waxman as a safety check prior to surgical procedures. It works by encoding patient and procedure information into a radio frequency identification (RFID) tag which is then confirmed by handheld readers before surgery is performed.

The Surgichip product is currently being tested at the Palm Beach Orthopedic Institution. According to surgeon Frank Cook, Surgichip helps to improve patient confidence that our medical staff is taking all the precautions and safety checks necessary to ensure the correct procedure is done, in the correct location, with no mistakes.
