As anticipated, Sun Microsystems Inc’s Sparc Technology Business unit will this week announce SuperSparc II, coming in above SuperSparc+ in 75MHz and 90MHz iterations and hitting 115 and 125 SPECint92 and 135 and 147 SPECfp92 respectively. The Mbus- and XBus-enabled part comes as a three-way superscalar, 3.1m transistor BiCMOS part drawing 19W that will run existing applications and operating system releases unchanged. Sun’s Sparc Technology Business says it has improved performance by eliminating cycle-time bottlenecks in the pipeline, register file, floating point unit and input-output. 75MHz samples are available now, 90MHz iterations in January, but shipping dates and pricing are as yet to be released.
