The company claims that the new 1U server chassis is the smallest and quietest among existing chassis solutions. These SC502, SC503 and SC510 series ultra-short depth 1U chassis operate at less than 35 decibels (dBA).

In the enterprise category, Hewlett-Packard launched HP BladeSystem 7000c thin blade server chassis in June 2006, for 17 inch rack slots.

These new chassis from Supermicro feature a 200 watt power supply with thermal fan speed control. At less than 35dBA the new chassis series have been built to suit Supermicro’s X7SBL, PDSBM and PDSML series motherboards. With a depth of 9.8 inches, the SC502 and SC503 chassis are built to match low-voltage processors up to 35 watts by means of its active heat sinks. Both chassis can support either one 3.5 inch hard drive or up to two 2.5 inch hard drives or one PCI add-on card as options, the company claimed.

According to PRNewswire, Charles Liang, president and chief executive at Supermicro, said: Finding space for a 1U server that is only 11.3 inches deep is easy, and for those who want an even smaller solution, our SC502 and SC503 chassis are just 9.8 inches.

Furthermore, at 11.3 inches deep, the SC510 chassis supports Intel Core 2 duo and Xeon 3000 series processors up to 65 watts using its passive heat sinks.
