Sun Microsystems Inc’s SunSelect has introduced version 5.1 of its PC-NFS personal computer-based communications offering which enables personal computer users to access data on Unix, VMS or IBM Corp mainframes over TCP/IP from MS-DOS or Windows. SunSelect says 5.1 can be installed in a single step and that the need to separate installation programs for Windows has been eliminated. It uses Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol for automatically configuring clients and supports Domain Name Service in addition to its NIS Network Information Service. SunSelect says PC-NFS 5.1 enables users to access Internet from individual personal computers. It comes with a new interface for Windows Telnet and expanded printer support. Prices go from $325 per user.
