SunGard opens data center in Philadelphia

To enable its customers to run business systems and applications

By CBR Staff Writer

SunGard’s Availability Services unit has opened its third data center in Philadelphia to provide IT infrastructure and managed services to its customers.

The financial software company said the facility will enable its customers to run business systems and applications, saving on capital and operating costs of building and operating their own data centers. The new operation is expected to provide multi-platform support, as well as workstations for its customers to conduct business on-site.

The company has invested $25m on the 120,000 square-foot facility and plans to employ a staff of ten and spend a further $45m on the center, its 34th data and disaster recovery center in the US. The company already has two data centers in Philadelphia.

Dave Colesante, senior vice president and managed services general manager at SunGard Availability Services, said: This new facility provides customers with advanced IT capabilities and frees up their IT resources for more strategic endeavors within their organization. Leveraging SunGard helps customers to lower data center costs while also helping improve system and application uptime.

Last month, SunGard expanded its grid capacity adding more than 500 cores to a cluster setup to host its iWorks Prophet actuarial product. It said the expanded capacity will enable its customers to reduce model runtime.
