Sun Microsystems Inc shares tumbled $1.75 to $19 even on enormous turnover of 3.5m shares in the first hour of trading Friday morning as it joined the ranks of high-flyers to stumble: after US markets closed on Thursday, it announced that net profits for its fourth quarter to June 30 would be significantly down on the same period last year, and there could be a slight loss. The Mountain View company is blaming a whole string of factors that it characterises as short term, and looks for its upward momentum to resume in the first quarter of its fiscal 1990.
