Prisma Inc’s ambitious plans to produce a 150 MIPS Gallium Arsenide version of Sun Microsystems’ Sparc RISC processor came to an end at the end of November when the company shut its doors, leaving all of its 45 employees without jobs (CI No 1,314). But industry sources claim that Sun, interested in the remains of the company, has taken out a contract with Prisma’s software development arm, so that the ex-Prisma employees will become Sun employees. The trouble is, says the source, none wants to leave Prisma’s home town of Colorado Springs, so Sun may have to set up a small operating unit there. Meanwhile another newcomer, Systems & Processes Engineering Corp, is working on a 200MHz, 200 MIPS GaAs Sparc set for the end of the year (CI No 1,317).
