Sun Microsystems Inc has a new cut of its JavaOS for Consumers product fitted with the ChorusOS 3.2 kernel. The Consumer release effectively integrates the PersonalJava subset of Java with Chorus to create an application platform for appliances which use small screens such as screen phones. The Consumer release does not include the Java System Database (JSD) and Java Service Loader (JSL) technologies co-developed by IBM Corp and included in the JavaOS for Business implementation designed for desktop devices. The ChorusOS will also be integrated into the Business release. JavaOS does not require use of the Java Remote Method Invocation system Sun execs told us. It uses the Java dynamic management kit. Alcatel is using JavaOS for Consumers in its web phones.
