SUN TEMPTS HIGH-END SGI USERS PART EXCHANGE FOR STARFIRES

Not wishing to look a gift horse in the mouth, Sun Microsystems Inc’s moving in for the kill and offering Silicon Graphics Inc users credits of up to 20% on the cost of its Ultra Enterprise 10000 Starfire server if they trade in SGI Challenge, Power Challenge or Origin 2000 servers over the next six months. Starfires, ironically created by SGI’s Cray Research Inc unit and sold to Sun after SGO bought Cray, were previously not part of the competitive trade-in program.
