Sun Microsystems Inc says it will extend the reach of its SyMon remote monitoring software by getting it to report on many more kinds of system and application-level activity and will eventually embed and ship the functionality with all of its servers. It is not going to tread on the toes of partners such as BMC, CA or Tivoli but will use those management applications to provide reach and coverage. But it says it knows best about the hardware it built and software it wrote.
