Shares of Sun Microsystems Inc took a purler on Friday after Prudential Securities lowered earnings estimates for the firm: analyst Laura Conigliaro says she trimmed her fiscal first-quarter earnings forecast for Sun to a range of 10 cents to 15 cents a share from 22 cents; she also shaved her fiscal 1994 estimate to $2.35 a share from $2.60 and says she thinks Sun’s first-quarter revenues will be somewhat shy of her previous expectations and that the sales shortfall will be magnified in the bottom-line earnings numbers; she says there doesn’t appear to be a fundamental demand problem – Sun is making changes in its sales force that are causing a disruption that should prove short-lived; the shares fell $2.25 at $21.75, a 12-month low.
