At the same time next week, Sun Microsystems Inc will also unveil its plans to build an enterprise storage systems business with a brand identity to compete against EMC Corp’s Symmetrix and Data General Corp’s Clariion ranges. It will use its new Removable Storage Array 2000 RAID product line as a starting point, and support all main Unix variants as well as Windows NT. Sun says its storage revenues are already as high as those of EMC – which managed $1.617bn for the nine months to September 1996. Sun was still working on a name for the new business on Friday.
