Sun Microsystems Inc claims the UK is its largest market for Starfire servers outside of the US because the Cray Business unit which developed the technology and was subsequently acquired by Sun had an established operation selling and supporting systems over there. Sun boasts one site has four Starfires installed at a cost of $1.5m each. The UK claims an average install of between 20 and 30 CPUs per Starfire system, something less than the 30 recently touted by the US.
