Sun Microsystems Inc believes there is a significant commercial market emerging for HPC high-performance computing and parallel system technologies driven by the likes of NASA and other government agencies and research establishments which that are winning more and more commercial contracts. Traditionally no one has wanted to pay for HPC systems that are typically used in research establishments. They are effectively raw number crunching devices that are not fitted for running commercial databases.
