Sun Microsystems Inc was yesterday due to unveil a prototype of its cheap Internet access device running the Java language.browse the Internet and corporate networks. It will cost more than $500 but is driven by a 110MHz Sparc and comes in a box roughly 5 by 9 by 2 with no disk; it will come with an Ethernet interface and will access the Internet via a server. A standard Sun workstation monitor will be extra. It will not be particularly cheap compared with personal computers, but the pitch will be that it will be easier to maintain – if Sun decides to launch the thing. Java will be its own operating system and browser.
