The companies, who signed a legal settlement and technology licensing agreement in April, will focus on interoperability between Java and .NET, and examine systems management.

The companies are currently committed to providing interoperability between Microsoft’s Active Directory and LDAP directories.

Microsoft and Sun last week hosted a joint press conference to highlight advances achievements in the companies’ relationship since April. Advances include collaboration on Microsoft’s WS- standards, certification for Sun’s directory server, access manager and identity manager on Windows, and certification of Microsoft’s volume task manager on Sun’s 6920 storage arrays.

Also highlighted last week, was interoperability between federated identity architectures from Microsoft and the Sun-backed Liberty Alliance Project.

Loiacono on Friday, though, provided further insight into plans for the relationship. Beyond that, we are talking about specifications and code in the early part of next year. You will see a formal announcement showing code and specifications in detail, Loiacono said.

He added: The next pieces [are] around Java and .Net interoperability – if I have a service written in .Net can I deploy it on Java. The next thing we [will] look at, is systems management.
