SUN MICROSYSTEMS TARGETS BUSINESS MARKET IN INNOVATIVE SOFTWARE DEAL

By CBR Staff Writer

More evidence of Sun Microsystems’ increasing interest in the business marketplace comes from a joint development deal between the Mountain View high flyer and Innovative Software Inc of Lenexa, Kansas, author of the Smart office automation suite. The two companies will jointly develop new applications software to run on Sun workstations, taking advantage of the windowing and mouse facilities. The move follows another joint development set up last month with Relational Technology for a window-based user interface to Ingres, the fruits of which are expected in June. Innovative says it is committed to developing powerful graphics oriented products for combination with its business products, which have recently been ported to Xenix. Sun says it will be marketing the co-labelled product, but did not reveal when it would be available. Innovative Software is in the process of merging with Unix database vendor Informix Software Inc.
