Bharti-BT Internet, a joint venture between Bharti Telecom and British Telecommunications Plc, has placed equipment orders with Sun Microsystems Inc and Nortel’s Bay Networks for its ISP business. Bharti-BT’s systems will be based on the Unix operating platform and will use Computer Associates International Inc’s Unicenter systems management and Netscape Communications Corp’s web server software. Siemens AG is the systems integrator for the $2.35m contract. Bharti-BT will also apply for an international gateway. The firm, which expects to be issued an ISP license shortly, will begin providing internet services in Delhi, Bombay and Bangalore by the first quarter of 1999.
