This week, Sun released new and updated versions of its Java Enterprise application programming interfaces, including Java Message Service specification (initial public review) for messaging services such as reliable queuing, publish and subscribe and various aspects of push/pull; JavaMail 1.0 (final specification), a set of abstract classes for building mail and messaging systems; the Java Naming and Directory Interface (new) for portable directory-services enabled applications; and the Java Transaction Service (initial public review) for interoperability with transaction processing monitors. Sun also announced the availability of the Enterprise JavaBeans 1.0 component architecture, somewhat later than some were expecting (CI No 3,317).
