Sun Microsystems Inc has also grouped together three of its server-side Java development tools as JavaServer Engine. The products are Java Blend, Java Modeler and JavaSafe. Java Blend was actually announced in August of last year, and it is a Java DataBase Connectivity (JDBC)-based product to build database applications (CI No 3,232). It does object-relational mapping on the database structures, leaving developers to write their Java applications, rather than in something like SQL. It was supposed in early release by now, but Sun now says it, like the other two products, will now ship in the fourth quarter. Java Modeler provides an environment in which to test models and designs and to extract objects from existing code. JavaSafe is a versioning and revision control product. The JavaServer Engine suite as a whole is expected in the fourth quarter.
