It’s always nice to be able to exude an aura of effortless success when you launch a major new product line and pitch for a new sector of the market, however furiously those little legs are paddling just under the water, so Sun Microsystems Inc was able to give its new Ultra Enterprise servers the best possible backdrop for their launch by reporting net profits up 33% for its fiscal third quarter. The earnings per share figure of $0.73 exceeded mean analysts’ estimates of $0.70. The company’s net profit was $143.3m, and it says operating income as a percentage of turnover was the highest in nearly eight years following particularly strong demand for multiprocessing desktops, desktop servers, and high end servers. Turnover for the quarter was $1,840m, an increase of 22%.
