Taking advantage of prices that are at last falling on flat panel displays, Sun Microsystems Computer Co has expanded its family of Sparcstation Voyager portable workstations with two new models offering three times the base memory and more than twice the disk of previous configurations at a lower cost. The new Sparcstation Voyager features 48Mb of memory and an 810Mb disk and weighs 13 lbs. It now comes in two standard configurations: the 16Mb model with a 340Mb disk is cut by a whopping $3,000, to $7,000 for monochrome models; and by $4,000 to $11,000 for systems with colour active matrix display; and the 48Mb model with 810Mb disk. They all come with a 60MHz microSparc-II, 16-bit stereo audio, twisted pair Ethernet, ISDN, SCSI-2, parallel and serial ports, PCMCIA slots and infra-red interface. Users can choose from a 14 mono flat panel, 12 colour panel or 17 colour cathode ray monitor. The mono model is $10,000 and the colour flat panel model is $14,000. The company is also now offering US and international versions of PCMCIA facsimile modems made by US Robotics Inc with software from Faximum Inc.
