Sun Microsystems has announced several technology enhancements to its GlassFish portfolio, an open source web application platform.

The GlassFish portfolio comprises open source technologies, including OpenESB, OpenMQ, Liferay portal, Sun GlassFish Web Stack and GlassFish, a downloadable application server.

According to Sun Microsystems, the new enhancements to the GlassFish portfolio include Sun GlassFish Web Stack and Sun GlassFish Web Space Server.

Sun GlassFish Web Stack, a pre-integrated and pre-tested LAMP stack is updated with new versions of open source projects. The new web stack is also expected to provide comprehensive user interface based management tool to simplify single and multiple instance deployments.

Sun said that its GlassFish Web Space Server has been enhanced to support the Secure Web Access (SSL-VPN) module and includes integrations with Sun Identity Manager, Microsoft Sharepoint, Documentum and Alfresco content management systems to enable companies to create VPN links to content without any installation.

In addition, the company has also announced the access of GlassFish v3 containing a full preview of the forthcoming Java Platform Enterprise Edition 6 (Java EE 6) specification.

GlassFish Portfolio is available via a flexible subscription-based pricing model starting at $999 per server.
