SUN CLAIMS TO BE SHIPPING PRODUCTS USING X400 MESSAGE HANDLING STANDARD

By CBR Staff Writer

Sun Microsystems Inc has joined the growing band of manufacturers claiming to be shipping products that implement the X400 message handling standard. SunLink MHS is a gateway and message routing product that links networks of Sun workstations running Sun’s existing Unix mail-based product to the X400 world, for connection to public and corporate mail networks. Users access X400 networks via the existing Sun mail tools, and addressing formats are the same regardless of whether the recipient uses X400 or Unix mail. Future developments, according to SunLink product manager Marly Cadozo, include extending the Sun mail tools to allow use of the X400 facilities for transmitting graphics and facsimile. SunLink MHS is layered above SunLink OSI for local area networks, above SunLink OSI and SunLink X25 for wide area networks, and will cost about UKP4,500 when it ships in May.
