SUN CAPTURES MOTOROLA AS ITS ‘LARGEST JAVA PARTNER’

By CBR Staff Writer

Sun Microsystems Inc’s largest Java partner turns out to be Motorola Inc. The Schaumberg, Illinois giant has paid for access to all of Sun’s Java technologies and says it will use it in its semiconductor, smart card, automotive component, wireless devices and advanced electronic and computer businesses, which is basically all of it. The two companies are also to combine their efforts in spreading Java to more embedded and communications devices. Sun did not get back to us by press time to explain what it means as largest – we assume it means the largest variety of products, as IBM Corp is bigger than Motorola by any financial measure. Terms of the licensing deal were not disclosed.
