Under the agreement, Siebel’s eBusiness Applications has been engineered to support Sun’s Cluster 3.0 High Availability (HA) agent out of the box, and validate and support the Sun One Identity, Portal, Web, Messaging and Directory servers.
Sun called the deal a multifaceted agreement. The companies are also working towards bundling Siebel’s applications with Sun’s software and hardware, for out-of-the box set-up by customers.
Stans Kleijnen, Sun’s vice president of market development engineering, called the deal a next level in the companies’ partnership designed to improve customers experience in setting up systems running the combined Sun and Siebel system.
The end user doesn’t want to have to deal with too much detail in either the support or the software, Kleijnen said.
Sun’s Portal Server 6.0 will be validated with Siebel’s Employee Relationship Management (ERM) 7.5 so customers are no longer required to build customized portlets. Sun’s Identity Server 6.0 will be validated with Siebel 7.5, for single sign-in to web services.
Validation is designed to remove potential problems so both companies can support installations running both sets of products, rather than pass customers off to eachother.
Sun’s Cluster 3.0 HA, meanwhile, will increase availabilty, management and assist recovery of Sieble applications.
