Tokyo-based trading company giant Sumitomo Corp will launch a joint venture to build Internet computer networks in Asia. Sumitomo will set up the joint company, Asian Internet Backbone Co – A-Bone – with three Internet access firms. A-Bone will have capital of $6m, with 25% of the funds each being put up by Sumitomo, Internet Initiative Japan Inc of Tokyo, Pacific Internet Pte Ltd of Singapore and HKUSTR and D Corp, both Hong Kong firms.
