Sumitomo Chemical Co is determined to be a major player in optical disk media, and is set to start sampling erasable magneto-optical platters: it is also number one in Japan for write-once optical disks and aims to produce 1m this year, having entered the business only in July with initial annual capacity of 600,000 platters; customers include Information Storage Inc in the US and TEAC in Japan.
