While PC makers throughout the world are desperate for every order they can get, UK producer Viglen Technology Plc has given up selling to an important sector of the domestic market, even though this has cut sales in half to 13.3m pounds. Company chairman Alan Sugar has decided to abandon first time buyers. The reason is that with margins under pressure, it has become just too expensive to give them the support they need. So instead of fielding how do I switch it on? calls from novices, Viglen will now be targeting what Sugar describes as the more knowledgeable second time buyer who needs less support.
