Tech has taken the number one spot in a list naming the top 100 undergraduate employers in the UK, with Microsoft claiming first place in a list where law firms and banks featured heavily.

Taking into account over 7,000 student reviews throughout the 2015-2016 academic year, RateMyPlacement.co.uk ranked organisations that recruit over 15 students a year on placements, internships, vacation schemes and insights; and have at least 15 reviews on the website.

Microsoft bettered its top ten placement in last year’s rankings, moving up five places to knock Bank of America Merrill Lynch down to second place. As the top rated employer this year, Microsoft received reviews averaging 9.11 out of 10, on criteria including: amount of responsibility given, whether they felt valued by colleagues, impressions of the company overall, training and development opportunities, and transferable skills gained.

Companies making up the rest of the top 10 include big name banks, professional services and law firms such as Grant Thornton (#3), Goldman Sachs (#6), Morgan Stanley (#7), and PwC (10).

Lucy Saunders, University Recruitment Manager at Microsoft said: “Integral and core to our Intern programme is the belief that our interns should be given as much opportunity as possible to make great impact during their time with us.

“We also understand how important and beneficial a strong start is for them, and we aim to give them the right platforms and chances to form a strong community and network together during their time with us.  For Microsoft UK to be at the top of this table is a credit to all those Interns who have added so much value and positive energy to our business year on year."
