Stripe, a mobile card payment app, has been launched in the UK.
Stripe’s launch gives UK businesses a simple way to accept payments online, replacing legacy merchant processors and banks.
Stripe has already achieved significant scale in the US and Canada, processing millions of dollars each day for companies including Heroku, Foursquare, Evite, Grooveshark and Reddit.
"We’re incredibly excited to introduce Stripe to businesses in the UK," said John Collison, co-founder of Stripe. "For the first time, businesses can add card payments to a website in minutes, while delighting customers with a seamless user experience. It’s easier than ever before to start doing business online."
Businesses can accept all major card types including Visa, MasterCard and American Express, while retaining full control over the checkout experience on their website. For the first time, Stripe is launching support for multiple currencies: UK users can charge in USD, GBP and EUR immediately. Pricing in the UK starts at 2.4% + £0.20 per transaction + VAT, with volume discounts available upon request.
"Having used and evaluated countless payment services over my last three businesses, Stripe is by far the easiest solution available. We were able to begin accepting live payments in a matter of minutes and the integration for Thread.com took a fraction of the time it’s taken previously," says Kieran O’Neill, founder of online personal shopping service Thread.com.
"Between chasing customers for payments and finding simple ways to accept and track customer payments, getting paid is a hassle for businesses. With payments powered by Stripe, we’re taking all the pain out of this process.," said Kirk Simpson, CEO of Wave. "Our customers are overcoming the obstacles surrounding the payment process and getting paid faster."
